The Home for Children in the village of
Gorski Senovets is an institution which provides social services to the children and youth who live in it. The neat
village of Gorski Senovets is 13 km northeast of the town of Strazhica. It can be reached by bus or car. Right now the
Home houses 56 girls and boys with intellectual disabilities and additional conditions. They are 3 to 18 years of age
and are divided into four groups.
Our mission:
To protect the rights of children with disabilities who are in disadvantaged positions
To provide professional socio-psychological assistance in order to correct, compensate and rehabilitate the disabilities of the children.
Our vission:
We would like the Home to become a factor in partnerships for quality social services for children in accordance with European standards. Our attention is focused entirely on the elimination of those aspects which traumatize the children and leave them with emotional deficiencies.
We are trying to create an environment which resembles a family so that our children feel loved and happy. Our goal is to enable the social participation of children with disabilities. They are no different from other children and they too have dreams.
The Home aims to provide for the:
Health and physical development of the children. We evaluate their health needs and we plan a prophylactic programme for each child which includes examinations, consultation, immunizations, daily goals and good nutrition
Education of the children. We evaluate the abilities and the knowledge of each child in order to determine its development, potential and future needs. We provide opportunities for the children to attend mainstream or special schools
Emotional and behavioral development of the children. We evaluate the communications skills of each child and if necessary we consult specialists - psychologists, psychiatrists and pediatricians
Safe living conditions
Quality of free time. The activities for children include gardening, cooking, life skills training and a lot of music
The connection with parents and relatives. We help the children communicate and establish relationships with their relatives and we encourage families and children to reconnect with each other
Integration into life outside of the Home. We prepare the children for independent living.
This includes:
a. teaching skills appropriate for the intellectual development of the child b. access to educational institutions c. development of professional interests d. development of social connections e. exploration of the possibilities for:
returning to the biological family
living with relatives
using alternative services such as day care centres and assisted living homes
